College Football Week 1 Recap

After a solid week 1 of college football, here is a recap of the action.

Choosing the right Fantasy name for your team

As you all know, football season is approaching rapidly. Thus, fantasy football season is as well. Now, having a good team is always important. But choosing the right fantasy team name is key to being successful. Will you be mocked? Feared? Not taken seriously? It all depends on the name. Usually, associating your name with a player you drafted is always a good idea. For example, "The Foster Home" (Texans Running Back Arian Foster) or maybe "Somewhere over Dwayne-Bowe" (Chiefs Wide Reciever Dwayne Bowe). All of these are good names, and you could even be humorous in your team name. For example, "Show Me your TD's" or even "Favre's Footlong." All of these are good names. So when it comes kick-off time, choose a name that not only represents you, and your team, but makes your opponents tremble.

Part 2

ACC:
Virgina Tech: They said if ain't broke don't fix it, and Virgina tech winners 3 out of the 6 ACC championship game are my favorites for the ACC title. Even though they are young expect their defense to be tough and their offense follow their defense.

Dark horse: Virgina: Coming off a 4 win season I can't see anywhere but to go up, they return 14 starters 7 on offense and 7 on defense. I can see them win at least 6 and maybe 8 games this year.

Big East:
UCONN: Once again last year winner UCONN has the most probable spot to win the wild big east. They return 8 starters on offense and 7 on defense. With just the experience of playing in a bcs game will carry them through the year. They might end the season with 1 or 2 conference losses but they will still win the conference.

Dark horse: Syracuse: Like Josh said Syracuse is the one improved team from the last years. They beat all the big boys in the Big East and a couple of wins on there home turf might win them a big east title.

Big Ten:
Michigan State: Yes an upset pick but still Michigan state will have one of the best teams in the countries. They were tri champions of the big 10 last year, and had a great season until they were embarrassed by Alabama in their bowl game. Expect them to bounce back and play like of the best teams in the countries.

Dark Horse: Indiana: Yes another wild pick, but Indiana is receiving one of the best offense coordinaters in the country as their head coach in Kelvin Wilson. With an mid level schedule I can see them making a bowl game and competing for a middle spot in the big 10.

Big 12:
Oklahoma: This pick is a no brainer and might be one of the easiest picks of the day. Oklahoma with one the most talented teams in the country should walk through all the competition on the big 12. It will be interesting to see if they can keep up there 36 game home winning streak.

Dark Horse: Kansas State: Kansas state played really well last year under Bill Synder an old coach for the wildcats. With running backs like Bryce Beal expect Kansas state to finish in the top 3 of the conference.

CUSA:
Tulsa: a 10 and 3 mark last year and returning 9 offense of starters put Tulsa as my CUSA champs. Led by GJ Kinne and Damaris Johnson the Tulsa high scoring offense will be hard to stop.

Dark Horse: SMU: Basically what Josh said.

Independent: (NOT a confernce) Notre Dame

MAC:
Northern Illinois: Returning the team that won the MAC last year will be a big help for the success of the Current Mac champions.

Sleeper: Kent State: Returning 17 starters expect Kent State to be a serious contender for the MAC title.

Mountain West:
TCU: What can you say they beat Wisconsin last year and they return 16 starters and 7 on there great defense. i don't care if Boise has Kellen Moore its all about that 4-2-5 defense that is a killer.

Dark horse: Air Force: The air force academy has some scary potential, because you just never know how to stop the triple option. If teams only have 1 week to get ready for it, the triple option will be extremly deadly.

Pac 12:
Stanford: With the best player in college football coming back in Andrew Luck and a steady team I see no reason why Stanford shouldn't just roll over all the pac 12 teams. They get Oregon at home which will be a key game to see who wins the pac 12.

Dark horse: Arizona: The wildcats always have a decent season and usually beats a big team once a year if they can do it this year they might be able to play in a bcs bowl game.

SEC:
Arkansas: Don't shoot me now but I'm calling Arkansas as the winners of the sec. Returning 16 starters and one of the best receiving cores in the country expect Arkansas to win the sec.

Dark horse: Mississippi State: With a talented team that took Auburn down to the wire expect Mississippi State to do big things and maybe compete for a spot in the conference championship game.

Sun Belt:
FIU: Coming off their first ever bowl win, FIU has tons of young talent and a great recruiting class I can see them doing big things down the road.

Dark Horse: North Texas: Josh said it all

WAC: Nevada: With Boise gone there is nobody that compete with the pistol of Nevada.

Darkhorse: Idaho: The program of Idaho has been on the rise and see if they can't compete for the 2 or 3 spot in the WAC   

Part 1

WAC:

Lennon Creer: Mr. Creer will be a senior for Louisianan Tech university. He ran for over 1,181 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior. With a weak schedule that doesn’t include Boise State I expect Creer to run for over 1,500 yards and about 15 touchdowns.

Sun Belt:

Jonathan Massaquoi: Mr. Massaquoi will be a sophomore at Troy and has the potential to be one of the best defense ends in the country. As a freshman he recorded 13.5 sacks and over 70 tackles, and was named to the freshman all American team. With that much success as a freshman I expect big things this year from the defense end from Troy.

MAC:

Eric Page: Mr. Page will be a junior for Toledo University, and is one of the best athletes in the MAC conference. His sophomore year he recorded 1,105 receiving yards with 8 touchdowns, he also returned 3 kickoffs for touchdowns. I expect his receiving numbers to go up and his kick return numbers to drop because people will be afraid to kick to him.

Independent:

Michael Floyd: Mr. Floyd will be a senior for the Notre Dame university, and one of the best wide receiver in the country. He recorded 1,025 yards and 12 touch downs as a junior, and was projected to be one of the best receiver if he enter the draft. Since Notre Dame runs the spread I would expect Dayne Crist to look for him on almost every play.

CSUA:

Case Keenum: Mr. Keenum will be a 5^th year senior for the Houston Cougars. He was set to be a first round draft pick last year before blowing out his knee in the 3^rd game of the season. For his career he has thrown for 13,586 yards and over 100 touchdowns. Case will be one of the top if not the best player in college football this year.

MWC:

Kellen Moore: Mr. Moore will be a senior for Boise State Broncos. If he wins like 6 games this year he will become the most winning quarter back in college football history. The transition to the MWC could possibly lead to down numbers but he is a winner I expect him to have great numbers.

Big East:

Isaiha Pead: Mr. Pead will be a senior for the Cincinnati Bearcats. He ran for 1.029 yards and 6 touchdowns and in his freshman and junior year he ran for over 100 yards on the Oklahoma defense. With the suspect play of the big east expect Pead to run all over teams this year.

Pac 12:

Andrew Luck: Mr. Luck will be a senior for the Stanford Cardinals. He is one of the most easiest picks this year, because he was suppose to be the number 1 overall pick last year till he stayed in college. With the addition of two more average teams to the pac 10 I expect Luck to have another spectacular year

ACC:

Bradon Jenkins: Mr. Jenkins will be a junior for Florida State University. He recorded 13.5 sacks last year and over 50 tackles. I expect for him to make a difference on the defensive side of the ball and maybe one of the top draft picks next year.

Big 12:
Ryan Broyles & Justin Blackmon: Both receivers will be seniors and Broyles plays for Oklahoma University, and Blackmon plays for Oklahoma State University. Both carried the teams last year with 1^st time starting qb's. I expect above and beyond for both players who will surely be drafted in the first round this year.

SEC:

Alshon jeffery: Mr. Jeffery will be a junior and attending South Carolina Gamecocks. He is the reason why Marcus Lattamore was such a great player last year, because mostly teams were highlighting him and not Lattamore. I expect big numbers out of this junior and be one of the first taken in the NFL draft.

Big 10:

Jared Crick: Mr. Crick will be a senior and attending Nebraska University. When he was a sophomore Suh said that Crick would be better then him his senior year, well we sure are going to find out. Crick is moving to a conference were he can be a difference maker in the running game wonder how he will adapt to the situation.

The week to come

No-hitters

Yesterday Ervin Santana threw a no hitter, the 3rd of the MLB season, and 9th for the Angles organization. The question is, are no hitters becoming a regular part of the game or are they still special every single time? There has been 273 no hitters thrown all time, with the most note-able being Nolan Ryan who threw a major league record 7 no hitters over his career. What was special about Santana's no hitter, he gave up a run, which hasn't happened since Darrly Kile for the Astros won his no hitter game 7-1. Even though a no hitter is thrown doesn't mean the team is guaranteed a win, 3 times a pitcher has thrown a no hitter and still lost the game. Ken Johnson, Steve Barber, and Andy Hawkins have all thrown no hitters but lost the game. So again with the recent string of no hitters is the no hitter thinning out as one of the most exciting things for baseball, or is still exciting every time?

Lockout

This is about how much the common person knows about the NFL lockout. I turned on ESPN today and saw they were once again talking about the NFL lockout. Today they were talking about how the owners were going to take a vote, which the collective banning arrangement did pass. If you look at the schedule the labor deal had to be passed on July 21st to make sure the NFL didn't miss any preseason games. Today is July 21st, coincidence, I think not, the NFL owners and players had a plan all along. This whole thing was a publicity stunt, every-day coverage by ESPN, every day building up tension and it wouldn't surprise me if this is one of the most watched seasons of football. The whole world knew that the owners and the players didn't want to lose any of their precious money and they were going to compromise.  Therefore, this whole thing was for publicity. 

Moving onto the NBA'S lockout you see all star players like Kobe and D-Wade saying they are willing to play overseas mostly in Europe countries. This is just used for leverage as the players to "get their point across." To make it work, ESPN is hyping it up like how the NBA will miss 2 to 3 seasons before a deal is expected. This is clearly bull because the NBA would come to a halt and would be no longer useful if they take off 2 to 3 years. Therefore I plan to see something like the NFL, as in coming down to the last day of a deadline then being passed and the season being one of the most watched.

In my own opinion there won't be another lockout due to the companies seeing the results of the MLB and the NHL lockouts which actually resulted in games missed. MLB lockout cut out the last half of the season in 1995 which killed the profit and cancelled the post season for the entire major league. It brought outrage to baseball fans. The NHL lockout lasted a whole year, killing NHL stability and killing the fan base of the NHL. When the NHL picked up the next season it was nowhere as popular as previous years. Therefore I see no lockout in the future of any sport and if they do they won’t be as serious as NHL and the baseball. Kingz Press future

Okay if you read my intro you know this blog is going to be mainly about sports. The sports are going to be what’s in season, for example right now baseball would be my main talking points. But I still would include big news from other sports. For example my first real blog will be my thoughts about the lockouts in sports mainly dealing with the football and basketball lockouts. I plan to do weekly power ranking that are going to be published on Sunday. I will post 4 to 5 times a week but some weeks I will be busy due to my life dealing around sports. One of those 5 days will be a recap of politics of the week and the hot topic will be breaking down republican nominees of the 2012 election. I will also do a breakdown of my favorite teams that include the Texans, Oklahoma, The Heat, and Rangers. Not only that, but I will also include other sports such as tennis, golf and NASCAR. Suggestions will be helpful for this blog, it’s here for the people to, if you want to see polls, I will add polls to get your view on subjects. So this is a brief intro on how my blog will work, and first post will be tomorrow about the lockouts in the world of sports.
